A Conversation with Kirsty of Fashion For Lunch

Get Blogged: Your blog is so full of colour and personality! What inspired you to start, and how has your focus evolved over the years?

Kirsty: Colourful luxury lifestyle. I started blogging such a long time ago that having a ‘niche’ wasn’t a thing! In fact, it was almost seen as limiting to have a niche! However, over the years, I’ve realised most of what I do is focused on colour and joy, as well as luxury. Partly because I like well-made things, but also because I believe in buying less and buying better.

Get Blogged: That’s such a positive approach! Thinking about recent collaborations, is there one that stands out as a favourite?

Kirsty: It would have to be Very.co.uk via Get Blogged! It was a dream to work with them. Sometimes I find collaborations quite stressful, but Very is a brilliant team to work with, and I loved the project, loved the content, and there wasn’t a single thing I would change about working with them.

Get Blogged: What a fantastic experience, we’re so glad to have seen it all happen with Very.co.uk! Have you ever had a brand partnership develop in an unexpected way?

Kirsty: I was a loyal customer to a brand and saw they had a refer-a-friend scheme where you could get a discount off your next order. Since I order from them regularly, I figured I could do some nice content, share the brand and save myself some money on my next order. I referred so many people that they had me flagged as suspicious, and I had to explain that I was an influencer and I had done some content about them! Now we are talking about doing a project together.

Get Blogged: That’s brilliant! We love hearing about partnerships that grow from genuine enthusiasm. What makes you feel valued as a creator when working with brands?

Kirsty: Thanking me at the end of the project!

Get Blogged: Simple but so important. When you’re considering a new collaboration, how do you decide if it’s the right fit?

Kirsty: Generally, if it makes me feel excited and if it adds value to my life, I know it will to my audience.

Get Blogged: That’s great advice. What tips would you give to other creators who want to build their own success and stay motivated?

Kirsty:

  • Be friendly
  • Don’t compare yourself to others
  • Love what you do. If you are just here for the collaborations, you will be disappointed.
  • Make the content you enjoy creating on platforms you like spending time on. If you have to force yourself, it’s not fun, and it will be hard to be consistent.
  • Don’t feel like you have to be a full-time influencer. Being a part-time influencer is often where the sweet spot is!

Get Blogged: There’s a lot of pressure in the industry to focus on collaborations, but your approach is refreshingly content-driven. Can you share your philosophy on this?

Kirsty: Content first, collaborations second! The brands will find you if your content is great.

Get Blogged: Such a good reminder. Finally, what would you say to anyone feeling discouraged by slow growth or the pressure to succeed overnight?

Kirsty: Love it! Enjoy it! Don’t feel like you are not an overnight success; you have failed.
