Emily shares her disability journey during the Covid pandemic

Read What Cerebral Palsy Means To Me by Emily of A Shaky Precipice Blog

Disabled people are really underrepresented in women’s spaces, despite the fact that there is a lot of intersections between misogyny and ableism – particularly in medical and educational spaces. The pandemic made me reevaluate my relationship with my disability, and this was also written during Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, so I wanted to share my disability journey.

Emilie ensures her readers that admitting mistakes takes courage and that it’s all part of growing

I recently left a toxic job which I’d taken despite being happy at my previous role, but I was promised the world and didn’t get any of it! It took a lot of courage to admit my move was a mistake, and a lot of soul searching when the opportunity wasn’t what I’d hoped it was. I wanted to share my experience and my opinion that mistakes aren’t necessarily a bad thing but can actually lead to some good. It’s hard for us to admit we’ve made a mistake, especially in our careers, so I wanted to provide people with some comfort that it’s okay if they’re feeling the same.

Sophie opens up about leaving an abusive relationship

Read Single Mothers Are Not Monsters by Sophie of Starting Today Blog

I think a lot of women stay with their partners, even if they are abusive, because they are frightened to face the stigma that comes with being a single parent. I wanted to show others that it’s okay to leave and things will be better for everyone, eventually. It just takes a little time to heal. This post in particular was extremely difficult for me to write because it was such an awful time in my life. Eventually things got better and I’m now engaged to my new partner who is wonderful. However, there were times during the healing phase where I was so low and I’d start reading women’s stories online of their experiences of leaving abusive relationships. Those stories gave me hope so I wanted to share mine to inspire others to do the same.

Natasha reveals how she takes solice in female friendships

Read A Marriage Of Friendship In Water by Natasha Sones Editorial Blog

At the time of writing this blog there is a real sense of uncertainty and despair in the world. Having battled two years of Covid-19 we now have an international crisis over the devastating impact of the Russian Government’s decision to invade Ukraine. With sadness and concern on everyone’s mind, I wanted to celebrate how I take respite in the company of other women – particularly being outside and active and around water. Wild swimming with other like-minded women is a source of joy to me in a stressful time. I have met such amazing and inspirational people and the camaraderie we have in the water is just lovely.

I’m passionate about changing perceptions around engineering careers, trying to show that engineering is for everyone if they want that path. It’s important to create communities where people feel supported as they often won’t be in their workplaces. We’re stronger together.

Sweety Joshi encourages other women to be financially independent

Read Top Side Hustles For Women From Home by Sweety Joshi of Grateful Soul Blog

I have written this post because in my country it’s taught to girls/women to rely upon a man (husband, father). I think that men and women should be treated equally. I think it’s really really important to be financially independent. That’s why I have written this post for women to help them with financial independence. I think it’s important to share because in my country it’s not a normal thing. It’s becoming normal but very slowly. I wish for women to stand up for themselves and their goals and make something on their own.

Harsha shares tips to help women unearth self-worth and self-confidence

I wrote this post after being inspired by my own self-love journey. It’s easyto watch people’s journeys about self-love but many don’t know how to start their own. In this post, I have shared some ways to practice self-love that will help people to change their life perspectives and learn to accept themselves. It’s about showing yourself the same kind of love and affection you show others, because you wouldn’t judge or put down someone you care about, so don’t do it to the most important person; yourself.

Ana shares mindful self-care tips

Read Mindful Self-Care Tips For World Mental Health Day by Ana of Faded Spring Blog

I have been through a lot of traumatic experiences in my childhood, teen, and adult life. I was left by my mother, and abused by my stepmother. I was bullied as a teen, and grew up in foster care. I am so grateful to my foster mum for saving me from the life that I had as a young child, but I was damaged. It took me a long time to practice self-care, and look after my mental and physical health. Why does it take society to make a change when you do something drastic? It does not make sense. Aged 28, I am still having help with my mental health, and that is nothing to be ashamed of. That’s why I feel like it is important to share my self-care tips for mental health. I know from personal experience what it is like to not look after yourself, and neglect yourself when you are struggling. Through active self-care I have learned to love myself, and go on a journey of self-discovery, personal development and growth.

Sarah explores how her close friends helped her feel herself again after having her third child

Read What’s My Superpower? Female Friendship by Sarah of The Good Thing Is Though Blog

In this crazy, ever changing world we mustn’t take for granted the important role our friends play in our lives. It’s easy for friendships to be put on the backburner whilst careers and family life take over… this post is a good reminder of just how vital nourishing our friendships is for our mental health. I wrote this post a few years ago. It was just after my first girly weekend away since having my third child. I felt like I’d lost something of myself over the past year… yet in 48 hours, my girls helped me find the old me again. I find the power of female friendship incredible! It made me very emotional writing this and it elicited a huge response on my social media at the time when I shared the post. I invited readers to tag the women who lift them up and bring them joy and it turned into a really beautiful opportunity for lots of women to tell their friends they loved them.

Suzy opens up about her adoption journey, showing that women can overcome challenges and realise their dreams

Read Learning To Love My Body Again by Suzy of We Made A Wish Blog

I wrote the post to share how I felt when I couldn’t get pregnant. Infertility affects around 1 in 4 couples in the UK, but it’s still a subject that isn’t talked about enough. Sharing my experience helped me come to terms with my grief of not having a birth child and embrace being a mum via adoption. I hope it helped others going through infertility to know they’re not alone. And that women and their bodies are strong and amazing, regardless of whether they’ve been able to grow a human in them. I want to share this on IWD because it shows that women are strong and often overcome many challenges to realise their dreams.

Women dedicate their lives to all the people around them, their parents, partner, or children. And this women’s day I want to encourage them to indulge themselves in Self Love and Self Care and see its magical effect on their own mental health as well as on their relationships. When you are happy yourself, you can make others happy. When you are at peace you can easily handle the stress of everyday life.

Joanne shares her working from home self-care tips

Read How To Look After Your Mental Health Daily by Joanne of Joanne Dewberry Blog

I wrote this post about looking after our mental health daily as when we work from home we can get caught up in doing and self-care takes back seat.

Read How To Look After Your Mental Health Daily by Joanne of Joanne Dewberry Blog

I think it is time that we normalized mental health. I spent so much of my childhood, and adult life feeling bad about being anxious, and depressed, that it took over my life. Whenever I tried to tell anyone about my mental health issues, I would be dismissed, my issues would be trivialized, or I was made out to be a drama queen. I was taught that crying was weak (despite the fact that I cried a lot), and was told that being emotional, and sensitive, was a ‘bad thing’. I realize now that it is OK to talk about your mental health issues openly, and that’s why I think it is important to talk about it for International Women’s Day. I want to change the discourse around mental health, and be proactive about removing the shame and stigma around it. Over the last few years, I have really changed my attitude to mental health, and have actively had therapy, medication, as well as mindfulness, meditation, and pursuing the things that make me happy. In our society I feel like we sometimes think that self-care is selfish, but it is not. Putting ourselves first is the most selfless thing that we could do.

Kerry-Ann speaks up about what not to say to someone who’s been in an abusive relationship

Read Things You Shouldn’t Say to Someone Whose Been In An Abusive Relationship by Kerry Ann of Voluptuous Chatterbox Blog

For me, there has been so much violence against women lately and I believe it’s important to remain aware of how we speak to others. It’s International Women’s Day and the perfect opportunity for us to talk about all these topics we may feel we’re not able to at times. I wrote this post to help others know what they shouldn’t say after an individual leaves or escapes an abusive relationship. It is one of the best pieces I feel I’ve ever wrote as I poured so much time and thought into it. I felt a huge weight off my shoulders when I hit publish because I was sharing something personal but hoping it would help others.

Nicole champions her female STEM role models

Read Women History Month: Inspiring Heroines by Nicole of High Latitude Lifestyle Blog

In the STEM field, women were often overlooked despite performing excellent science. Therefore, I portrait some of them as my heroines when taking my way into the STEM field. These women are of different nationalities to me, and some even had to leave their home country to study and/or work in their field. I studied abroad and even immigrated to work in my field. Therefore, I know that this way is much harder than studying in your own country with the support of family and friends as well as the advantage of being a native speaker. These women ploughed the way for the next generation, but had additional hurdles to overcome than their male classmates and colleagues. Today, I am an Emeritus Professor of Atmospheric Sciences. The goal of the post is to inspire all women to follow their dreams. And if it is STEM, to absolutely do it.

How do you DEFINE self love? Every woman defines self love in different way. For me it’s to understand that self-love is the ability to accept yourself completely and truly embrace the characteristics that define you (both physical and mental), regardless of how others may perceive them.

Sarah urges others to stand up against medical gaslighting

Read Medical Gaslighting: How to Recognize It and What to Do About It by Sarah of Thrive With Hives

I wrote this after going through the pain of kidney stones for several months before seeking care. I realized after my diagnosis that it could have been something far worse and that my hesitation to seek care was directly correlated to the way medical providers had treated me in the past. I want to highlight medical gaslighting so that people can recognize it and not delay medical attention when it’s needed.

Jaya shares a poem which inspires us to find the strength, courage and beauty within us

For the world is hollow and I have touched the sky is a feminine empowerment poem that challenges you to look below your fragile outer shell to find the strength and beauty you hold like a light within you. It reminds me constantly that beauty is more than skin deep and that, when I am feeling blue, a deep dive into my inner self is where I need to go. Let this poem represent your inner voice! Perhaps first your voice comes out doubtful and shaky. I want you to be brave enough to allow the words to help you discover your inner courage and beauty.

Laurie teaches women to take care of themselves to avoid overwhelm and burnout

Read Self Care Is A Sanity Saver by Laurie of Seeking Serenity And Harmony Blog

Women have a tendency to try to do everything, wear all the hats and take care of all of the people. Often we forget to put our own oxygen mask on first. This leads to increased stress and eventually burn out. We need to learn to meet our own needs and put on our own oxygen mask. Giving ourselves some self care will give us more ability to care for all of those that we want to give our all to.
